Puma Families...

Happy New Year! I sincerely hope the summer holiday has been filled with great family memories. As promised before the summer break, I wanted to send notice that our online registration is NOW OPEN!  Remember, this is a TWO part process and both parts need to be completed. There is no longer a walk-thru registration component at Pine Valley.

Step 1.) Complete the SRVUSD Annual Update: To update personal / emergency information

  • If you have any technical difficulties with the District Annual Update please contact their office (not Pine Valley) at (925) 552-5500 or email PortalHelp@srvusd.net.

Step 2.) Complete Pine Valley Registration

  • Registration is all online now.  There will not be a walk through registration day at Pine Valley this year.

I apologize in advance for the long message, but lots of information to share at the beginning of a brand new school year! Exciting and important information!

The purpose of this email is just to remind everyone of a couple of things... I know the next few weeks will be very busy for everyone. As a reminder for veteran parents and new information for incoming parents... the first week of school is called WOW Week (Week of Welcome). It is not about homework policies or behavior consequences... it is about getting to know each other as a school community. August 13 is a minimum day and students will attend all their classes.  However, August 14 and 15 are much different. Students will join their “Family,” a class made up of an equal amount of 6th, 7th and 8th graders. Together, we break down stereotypes by participating in social activities that include a motivational speaker and an assembly called “Epic Ability.” Students also take some baseline assessments that allow teachers to learn some of their academic strengths and areas for growth.  This week allows us to build relationships that serve as the foundation for our academic goals. Thank you PTA and EdFund for supporting our WOW Week. Without your monetary support and presence on campus, this week would not be possible.

August 9: PTA Welcome Back Coffee for parents at 10am (PV Music Room)

August 9: WEB Day (6th Grade Orientation): 6th Graders are invited from 10am- 12:30pm to meet their WEB Leader, participate in activities, get a campus tour and get their class schedules. A pizza lunch will be provided at noon.

August 13: This is the first day of school. School is from 8-11:20 (Minimum Day Schedule). TRAFFIX is aware of this. Sixth graders will receive their class schedules on WEB Day.  Seventh and 8th graders can check Infinite Campus at Noon on August 10 for their schedules as NO hard copies will be distributed on August 13.

August 15: PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS IS NOT A LATE START WEDNESDAY.  Normally, on Wednesdays at Pine Valley, school begins at 9:15 am. However, due to WOW Week, school will start at 8:00am.  TRAFFIX is aware of this.

August 21: Pictures will be taken for all students during PE classes.

August 23: Back to School Night will begin with a short welcome in the Pine Valley courtyard at 6:30 pm. Classrooms will open up at 6:40 and parents will follow their child’s schedule for the evening. There will be School Loop support in the library computer lab during your child’s lunch period. More information regarding Back to School Night will be provided as we get closer.

As the school year approaches, we often get questions in regards to class supply lists. These questions are understandable but are difficult to answer since different teachers have different requests, based on their curriculum and classroom management/organizational styles. Also, often with parent donations, teachers purchase and supply to students exactly what they need. Feel free to buy basics such as paper, pencils, pens, markers, etc., but please wait until the first week of school and the teacher will communicate any specifics.

Finally, as another reminder... SRVUSD carries over all balances on School Café, the school’s lunch management system, even from your child’s elementary school.  It should also be noted that the Pine Valley’s lunch schedules have changed this year so 6thgraders will eat during 5th period and 7/8th graders will eat during 6th period.

Please continue to use our website, PumaPride.org as a resource for information.  If you can’t find your answer there, feel free to give us a call or send an email. We will do what we can to make this transition into another school year a smooth one. Please “like us” on Facebook and/or find us on Twitter to help with communication.  We also use the Remind app to send reminders to students and parents (Separate email to come shortly with details) and we will encourage you to download it!  Please wait for that email.

As I meet with teachers on our staff development day on August 10, I will remind them that we only get one chance to make a first impression. I hope the conversations around your home the first week of school project a sense of optimism and excitement.

We look forward to a wonderful year…

Every Puma Counts,
