Sign up for Remind

The intention of Remind is not to replace SchoolLoop. It is an additional avenue to directly communicate with students through a medium they actually use to proactively engage them in school communication so they can fulfill their responsibilities and commitments. Sign up will be completely optional for students and parents but we will highly encourage that both parents and students sign up so they can stay informed. Registration is simple and can be done in 1 of 2 ways:

Option 1: Students/Parents will send a text to 81010 and then be asked to type in the appropriate message (see below) in the message box. Please note… MESSAGE IS SPECIFIC TO GRADE LEVEL! Then simply follow the text instructions from there and answer some questions; name, birthdate, parent information. Downloading the app is not required but suggested to organize messages received from multiple sources.

Option 2: Students may download the Remind app. The app is free. Click on “Join a Class.” Enter appropriate code below. Please note… CODE IS SPECIFIC TO GRADE LEVEL!  It’s that simple.

(all lower case and no spaces)

   Grade 6: @pvpride19

  Grade 7: @pvpride18

    Grade 8: @pvpride17

Please review the website at Remind.com. Please note that their services are FERPA and COPPA (Children’s Online Privacy and Protection Act) compliant so student information is protected. Parent permission/notification will be required for students under the age of 13. This will REQUIRE parents to respond via text message or email once their child (under 13) attempts to sign up. A permission form will actually be emailed to you that parents will have to print and sign. Once a hard copy is printed and signed, you take a picture of the signed form and electronically send the photo to Remind via your phone’s camera.

Good Morning Pine Valley! Today is Tuesday, February 21, 2017.

February is Black History Month, a time to recognize and celebrate the many contributions persons of African descent have made to our country.  Today we recognize Congressman John Lewis.  Though John Lewis has made the news recently in a twitter spat with Donald Trump, he has long been an important figure in Civil Rights.  He grew up in Alabama and attended segregated public schools.  While a student at Fisk University, he organized sit-ins at segregated lunch counters in Tennessee, and volunteered for Freedom Rides.  At only 23 years old, he was a keynote speaker at the March on Washington in 1963 (where MLK Jr. gave his famous "I have a dream" speech).  He also participated in the famous march from Selma to Montgomery to fight for equal voting rights, that came to be known as "Bloody Sunday" because of the attacks on marchers by Alabama state troopers.  Lewis has remained dedicated to civil rights throughout his life, and in 1986 was elected as a representative in Congress for the fifth congressional district of Georgia, which he remains today.  His book about his experience in the march in Selma was recently made into a graphic novel for young adult readers.  Today is also his birthday.

Good Morning Pine Valley! Today is Friday, February 17, 2017.

February is Black History Month, a time to recognize and celebrate the many contributions persons of African descent have made to our country.  Born in 1913, Jesse Owens set athletic records as early as junior high.  In high school, he won all of the major track events, even setting world records.  He attended Ohio State University, working various jobs while going to school and practicing to support himself and his family.  In 1936, he attended the Olympics in Berlin, then under the rule of Hitler and Nazi Germany.  His impressive performance there, the first American to win 4 gold medals in a single Olympics, disproved Hitler's theory of the superiority of the Aryan race.  After the Olympics, he returned to the States and worked with underprivileged youth in Cleveland and Chicago.
